- MUSEUMS in our small town:
- Museo della Confraternita della Misericordia(Museum of the
Confraternity of Mercy),about the history of the Charity society
which worked in Anghiari since the first half of the 14th
century;Museo statale di Palazzo Taglieschi(public Museum of
Taglieschi’s bilding),it’s possible to admire its historical
artistic pieces of great value and of different periods);Museo
della Battaglia di Anghiari(Museum of the Battle of Anghiari),explains
and illustrates the Battle between Florence and Milan ,which
took place on the 29th June 1440 at the foot of the rock hill.
- CHURCHES:
- Santo Stefano(Saint Stephen),datable between 7th and 8th
century, whose main features imitate the Byzantine style; Sant’Agostino,
which was built after the visit of Thomas Becket (Chancellor of
Henry the 1st )in these places; la Badia, which was built by the
Tarlati family in the 14th century, with its famous
thirteenth-century wooden crucifix, whose hair is still visible;
la Propositura, was erected in the year 1628 in front of Via del
Fosso(now Via Trieste).
- This street was built by covering the surrounding town ditch.
- That is the reason why its houses were built leaning against
the town walls.
- In the surrounding area the castles of Montauto, Galbino,
Toppole, Pianettole, Sorci are to be admired.
